My horse, “Bubba,” 1990 AQHA gelding, 16.2 hands, 1600 lbs. aka my Redneck Warmblood
Bubba came into my life in 1994 when I bought him from
someone who had purchased him at the Woodburn Auction six months previously.
The Woodburn Auction is a place where old, lame, blind or otherwise “useless”
horses are often sold for meat.
There are a few good horses that go through this auction, obviously, and I was
happy that Bub’ didn’t get picked off by the “canners,” especially since he
would’ve made a lot of dog food considering his size. Bub’ is built downhill like a lot of Quarter Horses and also has a long back. He is definitely NOT “the poster child for a dressage prospect!” (Or a hunter prospect, our former career.) However, whatever he lacks in physical ability he more than makes up for in his extremely strong desire to please, i.e., he’s got a heart 10 times as big as any warmblood and twice as many brains. He lives to hear “good boy” and gets upset with himself if he can’t figure out what is wanted from him. He’s a bonafide sweetheart and has been called “The Ambassador of Good Will” of the horse world due to his friendly nature towards horses, humans and other animals. He has been known to gently pet the barn cats and scratch his dog buddies’ backs for them. He always greets his “mom” with a happy nicker or hearty neigh just to make sure she knows how much he appreciates her. Bubba is the happiest creature I’ve ever come into contact with in my entire life and he never fails to lift my spirits after I’ve spent a few minutes in his company, no matter how difficult my day has been. He is my wonderful, priceless boy and I am blessed to own such a beautiful, gracious animal who has and will continue to teach me so many valuable lessons. year showing dressage
…We
started dressage in 2001 and even qualified for the Oregon Dressage Society
Championships after only 8 months of dressage training.
We placed eighth at the Championship Show in the Adult Amateur Division
at Training Level. I was very,
very happy!
My beautiful Bubba boy Go to more pages of photos of Bubba Not to be forgotten… Mr. Pesto Gazpacho Tortellini Pesto escaped through an outside door at our Washougal property. I'm assuming he is in Cat Heaven now since we live in "The Wild." He was a one-person cat and totally devoted to me. I had him for 9 years, ever since he was 6 weeks old. He was very smart and very loving (to me). I cried for days after he was lost. He was a good cat and seemed to know he was needed as my companion when I lived alone. He is missed and I will never forget him.
