Riding Miss Mazy - Part 2 (April 2009)
I took an almost 3 month hiatus from riding Mazy due to all the snow and getting power wired in the arena for better lighting. I started riding her again about a month ago. She just gets better and better after each ride.
This is our first ride outdoors. She did really well. I rode her down the road in front of our house and on the neighbor's property. Truck went flying by while we were on the side of the road - she didn't even bat an eye (then again, she should be used to cars flying by given she is out in that pasture all day, every day). She is still a bit resistant to rein pressure but that is baby stuff that is normal at her stage in training. She's tons better than where she was when we first started!
(I am still amazed at myself for having the guts to get on an unbroke horse at my *advanced* age - I must be crazy!)

Here's an example of her resistance when I asked her to stop... normal stuff. I'm very careful not to be heavy handed with her. She turns directions with just a slight pull on the rein. I want her to be light in the mouth (well, guess that is the goal of all horsepeople, no?).

She really still looks like a baby sometimes (pic' below)...

(HAH!!!)
