Amado was my art teacher in Austin, Texas, during my last semester of high school right after my father moved our family from California back to Texas. It also happened to be Amado's last semester of teaching high school before he moved to Santa Fe, NM to become famous. I did the painting, "Foot Doctor," in his class. Betty Ann McGuire (professional artist). Betty is my first cousin who was unknown to the family until a few years ago due to terms of her adoption a lifetime ago. It is interesting that the artistic gene still passed along to her from my father's side of the family even though she had been raised by adoptive parents. Betty Ann creates beautiful quilts depicting landscapes, still lifes, etc. She was once commissioned by a village in Italy to do a quilt scene of their little town and she spent 6 weeks in the village completing the quilt. Betty Ann now lives in the artsy community of Wimberly, TX. Harriet Hauser (dressage trainer extraordinaire). Harriet is the savior of the Great & Awesome Bubba Horsey. She immediately identified and provided a dramatically successful solution to Bubba's main issue of pulling (or my issue of carrying his front end for him) which had been going on for years. Bubba and I had spent time with several local trainers who all failed to identify the pulling problem. Obviously, it became much more of an issue when we went from hunters to dressage. I may be dumber than a mud fence but in this case, I knew something wasn't right. So, I began clinicing with several well-known dressage trainers/ instructors including a nationally known competitor and an instructor from the Spanish Riding School in Vienna. They all failed to identify the pulling issue and often recommended "fixes" that would only make the problem worse. I was quite frustrated by the time I took my beast to Harriet. Imagine my heart swelling with pride when she said Bubba was the "heaviest" horse she had ever ridden in her entire life! But not for long. Bubba was a completely different horse after only TWO rides with Harriet, and had learned he had to carry his own front end around. To say I was shocked, amazed and elated, is an understatement. Harriet was the shining light at the end of the tunnel and I will always be grateful to her for giving me a "new" horse.

FarmHill Equestrian Center, LLC is a full-service
dressage and jumping facility located in Ridgefield, Washington. Home to 32
pampered horses and their happy owners, FarmHill provides the perfect
combination of serene environment, extensive facilities, comprehensive
amenities, and meticulous care. We are also proud to offer you the remarkable
resource of a congenial collaboration between our training programs for
dressage and jumping. Sharon Gober. Sharon is my first cousin on my mother's side and the only other person in the family to be afflicted with the horse-crazy disease other than Jody, Sharon's younger sister (who really had no choice). Sharon passed away in February 2002 at 45 years of age from myelogenous leukemia. I was fortunate to have spent time with her at her little ranch in Piggott, Arkansas in June 2001 before she even knew she was ill. I hadn't seen her in 12 years before that time but we had kept in touch mainly via email. Hopes and Dreams is a painting from a photo of Sharon's halter filly, "Dollar," that I took while visiting her in June 2001, and "Baby Face" is from a photo of one of her mares' colts. Sharon was one-of-a-kind, you always knew where you stood with her. If she liked you, you knew it, if she didn't like you, you knew it. I miss her. Barbara E. Hort, PhD (Jungian counselor in Portland, OR). Barb is the owner of the great and talented (and majorly intelligent) "Bear," the Friesian in one of my drawings. Other than my parents, Barb is probably the biggest fan and supporter of Rebeljek, for which I am grateful. Viggo Mortensen (actor, artist, photographer, poet, musician, horseman). I'm not much of a fan of actors/celebrities unless they have something besides looks going for them. But Viggo walks his own path (I always like that in a person!) and seems to be an amazingly talented, intense and passionate person. It's incredible how he can transform himself into each character he plays so you don't even know it's the same actor. He happens to be beautiful too but I don't hold that against him. Johnny Depp (actor). Unconventional, perhaps even odd, but down-to-earth and I think a genius in his field. Oh yeah, he's drop-dead gorgeous too! Garth Brooks (musician). I wasn't a big fan of CW music until Garth came along and shook things up. He's passionate, talented and an amazing performer. I never thought he was gorgeous (sorry) but he's intriguing, there is a fire burning inside of him that won't be put out. Toby Keith (musician and hell-raiser). I like his politically incorrect lyrics, the man is not afraid to express himself. He is self-driven and I always admire that in a person. I never thought he was gorgeous either (sorry) but he exudes a raw masculinity that is most definitely attractive. Billy Joel (musician). Truly an artist, passionate, intense, perhaps troubled (aren't all artists troubled in way or another?) but an exceptionally talented musician. I saw him in concert years ago in a stadium in Austin, Texas. He kept a fly swatter within reach while he sat at his piano because he wasn't real happy over the fact that bats had invaded the stadium's ceiling and would occasionally swoop down to check out his piano-playing. Queen - The most talented group of musicians to ever unite into one rock band, period, enough said. |
